"Mujer sentada tocando la espineta" by Johannes Vermeer

“Mujer sentada tocando la espineta is an oil painting by Johannes Vermeer. It’s calculated that this work was painted in 1675. Knowing this we can say that it’s one of the latest paintings of Vermeer.
The protagonist of this painting is a woman who is wearing a luxurious dress for the times that were running. She is sitting down in front of a spinet, also known as clavichord. The woman is looking to the spectator with her hands over an instruments. She is in a little lit room.
In the foreground we can see a viola de gamba, which is an ancient instrument similar to a violoncello.
This painting is preserved in the National Gallery, London.

Musical aspects: There is only one musician on the painting. As we already said there are two different instrument a clavichord and a viola de gamba. In this painting the woman is alone so she is going to paly a solo. The musique is from tyhre baroque due to the year it was painted. I have chosen two different comosition for each instrument. Both of them were composed by Bach a very influent composer of the Baroque period.
